Virginia Martin

July 28, 1924 — August 12, 2020

Aurora

Virginia Ruth Martin, 96 of Aurora, WV passed away August 12, 2020 at her home surrounded by her family.   She was born in Erwin, WV on July 28, 1924, a daughter of the late J. Roy and Isabelle W. Davis Lipscomb.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband James W. “Bill” Martin, one, brother J.Roy “Bud” Lipscomb II,  one daughter in-law, Linda Martin, and one aunt, Helen E.A. Davis.

Virginia is survived by three children, David Martin, Tom (Debbie) Martin, Sue (Jim) Mayne, 8 grandchildren and their spouses and 12 great-grandchildren.

She loved attending high school class reunions, knitting and crocheting, collecting and writing family and community history, reading and word searches.  Her greatest love was her family and being surrounded by her children and grandchildren.  Virginia enjoyed beach trips with her family and never wanted to missed a single minute enjoying life. She never met a stranger in all her travels. She loved sharing family memories of the past with her children and grandchildren.  She raised her family with great love, encouragement, and morals.

36 years of her life was spent doing what she loved, and that was teaching school.  She taught English, typing, and general business with many students reaping the benefit of her encouragement and love.  During her teaching career she taught at Aurora High School and Rowlesburg High School with hundreds of students passing through her classroom doors. Every student was considered “one of her kids”. Virginia was extremely proud of her students and enjoyed re-uniting with them at class reunions during the summers.

She was a member of the Aurora Area Historical Society, Youghiogheny Glades Chapter of Daughters of the American Revolution, member of  the Aurora United Methodist Church and WVARSE (WV Assoc. of retired school employees).

Funeral services will be private. Interment will follow in the Aurora Cemetery. Hinkle-Fenner Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements. We encourage our communities to share memories and express their condolences at www.hinklefennerfuneralhome.com
