Steve Shaffer

Steve Walter Shaffer, 64, of Eglon, WV, passed away on August 7, 2022, at Garrett Regional Medical Center.  Born on August 13, 1957, in Oakland, MD, the son of the late Walter Albert Shaffer and Thelma Regina (Judy) McBride.

Mr. Shaffer graduated from Aurora high school in 1976. Worked for and retired from the IBEW local 26 electrical Union. He was the former owner of Shaffer Construction Company. He was an active member of the Mt. Grove Fire Department in the 80's and 90's. He worked security for all the Blue Grass Festivals at Mt. Grove. Steve was a member of Mountain top hunting club. He loved fishing, hunting, riding four wheelers and the great outdoors. Steve taught himself how to play the guitar. He enjoyed to build things and teach the trades of Constructions to those willing to learn. His family was his pride and joy.

He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Renee (Strawderman) Shaffer, whom he married on March 18, 1978. Also surviving are one son, Shane Shaffer of Davis, WV; two daughters, Heather Bosley and husband Jeremy of Red House, MD,  April Sisler and Steve Watson of Oakland, MD; a loved son in law, David Sisler of Aurora, WV; one sister, Patricia Rinker of Augusta, WV; one brother, Michael McBride of Reston, VA; six grandchildren, Michaela (David) Ormsby, Brianna (Shane) Ratliff, Vanessa Shaffer, Savanna Shaffer, Chase Sisler and Brinley Sisler; three great-grandchildren, Abel Grant Ratliff, Colton Wayne Ratliff and Benjamin James Ormsby; "bonus" grandchildren, Harley and Lauren Mersing; brother-in-law, Steve Strawderman of Pensacola, FL, sister-in-law, Gabriella "Gabby" Knotts and husband Norman "Sonny" of Leadmine, WV, and the extra kids that claimed him as dad, Darinda Slaubaugh, Dale Shiflett, Robby Kight and many others.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Calcamp and one brother, Robert McBride.

Friends will be received at Hinkle-Fenner Funeral Home on Thursday, August 11, 2022, from 5-7 PM with closing remarks by Pastor Terry Weaver beginning at 7 PM.  The Hinkle-Fenner Funeral Home is honored to be serving the Shaffer family at this time.
