Mary Metz

July 2, 1930 — October 27, 2020

St. George

Mary Elizabeth Metz, 90, loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother went home to be with her Lord and Savior on October 27, 2020. She was born on July 2, 1930, in Parsons, West Virginia, a daughter to the late Noah Edward and Bessie Marie Tennant.

Mrs. Metz is survived by her loving husband of 40 years, Robert T. Metz, whom she married in 1980. Also surviving are one son, Randall “Banjo” Lynn Kelley Sr., and wife Ruby of Parsons, West Virginia; two daughters, Joanna Louise Kelley and Pamela Marie Kelley; seven grandchildren, Kelli Roby and partner Michael, Kristie Mayfield and husband Chad, Kimmi White and husband Jeremy, Melissa Kelley, Randall “Bub” Kelley Jr. and wife Aileen, Jordan Fenner and partner Rebecca, and Elizabeth “Lizzy” Fenner; eight great-grandchildren, Tanner and Jesse Mayfield, Jayden, MiKayla, Michael, Ja’lah, Eden Harding and Lily Kelley; one brother, Edward “Lee” Tennant; and one sister, Ruth Shahan.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband Bernard “Squeak” Ray Kelley Sr.; one son, Bernard Ray Kelley Jr.; and one brother, William Dale Tennant.

When Mary was 18, she married Bernard “Squeak” Kelley and had four children; after his passing, she married Robert Metz. They owned and operated their country store out of their home in Auviltown. She was the definition of a caregiver. She worked for Companion Care, which was an in-home care for the elderly. After retiring from Companion Care, she continued to privately work for families who needed in-home care. She and Bob also owned and operated Trinity Campground, creating a Christian, family friendly campground. The campground was also a central point for family gatherings. She was the Matriarch of her family and found joy in cooking for her family any chance she had. Her home was opened to the deer hunters every year and she had a hot supper on the table every day of the season. She gleamed with happiness when her house was full of her family during the holidays. She was a member of the Sycamore Grove Church. Anyone who knew her, knew that she had a passionate love for her Lord and Savior.

Friends will be received Friday, October 30, from 4:00 pm – 8:00 pm at Sycamore Grove Church. A Funeral service will be conducted, 1:00 pm, Saturday, October 31, at Sycamore Grove Church with Rev. Pat Cassidy officiating. Interment will follow in the Pifer Mountain Cemetery. Hinkle-Fenner Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements. In accordance with state guidelines, a face mask or covering must be worn and social distancing observed. Condolences may be made to the family at www.hinklefennerfuneralhome.com
